Naval Science One
- The purpose of
this course is to introduce the student to the precepts of citizenship, the
elements of leadership and team-building, and the value of scholarship in
attaining life's goals. Courses of instruction include military drill; physical
fitness and health; Navy uniforms, customs, and courtesies; Navy ships;
oceanography; navigation; meteorology; small boat seamanship; and shipboard
operations. Extracurricular activities include field trips to military bases,
sea cruises, social activities, drill team and color guard, mini-boot camp, and
community service.
Naval Science Two-
In this course, students will receive advanced leadership training by performing
in leadership positions within the NJROTC program. Courses of instruction
include U.S. government; citizenship; U.S. history, with an emphasis on the Navy
and Marine Corps; international law of the sea; and military justice. Students
will lead Naval Science I students in military drill and physical training.
Extracurricular activities include field trips to military bases, sea cruises,
social activities, drill team and color guard, mini-boot camp, and community
service. In addition, selected students will have the opportunity to attend the
two-week Leadership Academy at a naval base in San Diego.
Naval Science Three-
In this course, students
will be placed in advanced leadership and staff positions within the program to
further develop their management and leadership skills. Courses of instruction
include Naval operations and communications, and national security, Naval
logistics, career planning, and Navy weapons. Extracurricular activities include
field trips to military bases, sea cruises, social activities, drill team and
color guard, mini-boot camp, and community service. In addition, selected
students will have the opportunity to attend the two-week Leadership Academy at
a naval base in San Diego.
Naval
Science Four- In
this course, students will build on the skills acquired in Naval Science I, II,
and III. Students will be placed in the top leadership and staff positions in
the program. Case studies of the greatest leaders in our nation's history will
be presented. Students will perform independent research assignments related to
the military subjects. Oral and written communications will be stressed.
Subjects covered will include theories of human motivation; core values; group
dynamics; leadership traits; principles, and practices; and the chain of
command. Extracurricular activities include field trips to military bases, sea
cruises, social activities, drill team and color guard, mini-boot camp, and
community service.
