ALOHA!

“E komo mai” is the Hawaiian phrase for welcome.  I would like to extend a warm welcome to all students who are attending summer school  I look at summer school as an opportunity, not a punishment.  I hope you will, too.  English 11A is called “The American Identity” and English 11B is called "The American Dream- Illusion or Reality?"  Over the next four weeks in English 11A we will be analyzing the traits that we share as Americans.  We will examine: plays, short stories, essays, and many non-fiction articles to discover how our “American” traits emerged and have changed over time.  In English 11B we will read BOTH fiction and non-fiction pieces in order to analyze whether the "American Dream" that our country was founded upon is alive and well in 2016.  My goal is to make the class as educational and meaningful as possible.  As we study literary movements throughout our country’s history, my hope is that you will see connections between what you are learning in class and what you learned in your U.S. History class as the two courses coincide with one another.  Let the good times roll!  Make the most of this opportunity.  I have faith in your success.
