Principal's Welcome Back Letter
Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. Chaparral High School has had an amazing start, and now that we have completed our first full week of school, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and highlight some of the details that are important to know as we begin this year’s journey.
I could not be more excited, and humbled, to take on the position as Principal of Chaparral High School. This is my 11th year as a CHS Puma and my 18th year in education. For the last three years, I have served as Assistant Principal at Chaparral. There are two core beliefs that provide the foundation to my purpose as a parent, educator, and administrator. First, I believe that our students will rise to the level of expectation that we set for them. Second, I believe that every student who walks on our campus is OUR student. In other words, as a staff, we work to educate, encourage, coach, lead, and nurture EVERY student we encounter throughout our day.
This year, our campus has much to celebrate. Our California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CASPP) results reflect significant growth. In addition, we have worked to develop a rigorous curriculum in all of our courses that allows students the opportunity to grow and learn, while providing the necessary supports and scaffolds in order for them to reach their potential. Again, we believe that our students will continue to rise to high standards and high levels of performance because we believe they can. As principal, I know that every student’s greatest example of accomplishment is unique to their personal talents and skill-sets. This is why the Chaparral teachers are looking forward to a year where your students will finish the last day of school with a higher level of knowledge, skills, courage, esteem, and well-roundedness than they did when they walked on campus for their first day of school a week and half ago.
This year, our school-wide instructional focus is on collaboration and higher level questioning. Creating and fostering a culture of collaboration and communication is a necessary priority if we are going to build strong individuals who are prepared for the challenges of 21st century post-secondary education and careers.
There are three important dates that I would like to invite you to:
PTSA Back to School Meeting and Introduction from Principal: September 7th, 2016 at 5:30pm in the PAC.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT: September 14th, 2016 at 5:30pm (more details to follow).
PUMA PARENT DAY: Come and shadow your student for the day! Tuesday, Sept 27th
I want to welcome you as a partner and teammate in the education and success of your teenager. It is exciting to know that a week and half ago, 3,100 students began a personal journey on our campus. It is my goal that each journey is an incredible one. Thank you for all you do as parents and community members to support our efforts.
It is going to be a great year!
